The telephone network is based on transmitting analog signals. The ISP uses the same technology to transmit information to the subscriber. The modem is used to convert analog signals into digital signals that your computer perceives, and vice versa. Before you start your Internet session, your modem dials into the ISP's modem pool and establishes a connection. The low price and compatibility with almost any telephone line have made analog modems the primary choice of individual users. Unfortunately, the transmission speed of an analog modem depends largely on the quality of the telephone line and the established connection. That is why it is almost impossible to get the maximum data transfer speed (usually a modem with a claimed speed of 56 Kbps (when using V.90, V.92 protocols) allows to work at 36 Kbps, at best 48 Kbps). |
