According to the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR № 1761 on November 22, 1960 in Magadan was created Magadan State Pedagogical Institute (MGPI).

In 1992 by the Resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation Magadan State Pedagogical Institute was reorganized into the International Pedagogical University in Magadan. In December 1997, the Government of the Russian Federation by its Decree №4 of January 6, 1998 in Magadan, actually a new educational institution - the Northern International University which is the successor of the International Pedagogical University and Magadan branch of Khabarovsk Technical University was established. On April 23, 2007 SMU was renamed into North-Eastern State University. In June, 2007 our university brought its status in accordance with the current legislation. Today the educational institution is called as follows: full name - Federal State Budget Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education "North-Eastern State University", abbreviated name - SVGU. |
